Story Mill Community Park

story mill community park
Story Mill Community Park aims to become a community gathering place for all Bozeman residents to enjoy and celebrate our natural and cultural heritage. This 60 acre park will adjoin the historic Story Mill, aiming to transform this area into a useable, enjoyable open space. Story Mill Community Park will feature a variety of habitats, natural and man-made features as well as many walking trails and a community center.

In February 2014, the Bozeman City Commission unanimously approved the Story Mill Community Park proposal, with overwhelming community support. The park will be developed utilizing the ideas of many community members along with funding from the voter-approved 2012 Bozeman Parks & Trails bond measure, and the support of many generous donors. Story Mill Community Park will feature a one-of-a-kind playground, community center, outdoor classroom and large open spaces. The mission of the park also includes restoring wildlife habitat and protecting water quality.

The Trust for Public Land and the City of Bozeman are spearheading the effort to bring Story Mill Community Park to life. The park’s location close to Downtown Bozeman provides an array of benefits to locals. Picnic shelters, an adventure playground and climbing boulders will surely be well-loved by children. Pathways will take visitors on an easy ramble through the park but will also connect to other parks and trails in the Main Street to the Mountains system. The East Gallatin River winds through the park, providing a great place for families to wade in the cool water.

Story Mill Community Park’s outdoor classroom will provide a place for children to learn about nature while exploring the park’s meadows, tree groves and wetlands. A teaching garden and edible food forest trail will reveal where local foods come from. The park’s community center will support recreation, exercise and community events. Other features will include a large lawn space, outdoor amphitheater, bouldering area and sledding hill
